If you ask any cricket friend in india, what is the biggest upset of the IPL 7?
The answer without any doubt would be the performance of Mumbai Indian Team. It shocked all friends and even many still can’t believe that last year’s IPL and ICL champion is struggling to register their first win. They have lost all four matches they have played in this tournament. Batting used to be their biggest strength but this time it has become their biggest problem. What’s wrong with the team?
I being a people manger know one thing for sure and that is, your people are your best investment. Last year’s best performers Smith, Maxwell, Johnsan and Kartik who helped them to win IPL and ICL are not part of the team. How a team can take such a big risk? You need to retain your best talent for consistent and better performance. Look at Chennai Super Kings, they retain most of the players in past IPLs and that was the reason for their consistency. You are supposed to not to throw your best performers just because you got some one new who costs you less. You need to retain your best players else you will lose their services and sometime they can become problem for you if they become your competitors. All these guys have been match winners of their respective team in this IPL. The other big problem is their most motivating batsman Sachin Tendulkar is not available to play. The presence of Sachin on crease can make a big difference. The team management should have done better job by replacing Sachin with other great opening batsman and not the Mike Hussey who is retired from international cricket and not in touch with the game since long time. Look at their opening pair. AP tare is not a replacement of smith and Hussey can not be a replacement of Sachin. You have lost your game their. I don’t see any reason of keeping Pollard in team. If you look at his last 4 years’ record, his performance is not so impressive except few matches. He has not scored too many runs and his bowling is never been so great. He is one of the best fielder of the game but you can’t have someone in a team just because he is a good fielder. He has to be either a good batsman or bowler who is consistent.
Moral : Keep your best talent in your team. Make every efforts to retain them. It is easy to fill vacancies but difficult to fill the positions. This is applicable to all sectors whether it is private or government.
